Umno deputy president indicates to reporters that he is not concerned if disciplinary action will be taken against him nor does he think he will be sacked tonight.
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin is confident he will remain as the number two in the party.
While he did not say as much, the former deputy prime minister nodded in agreement when questioned by reporters.
When asked if he was concerned disciplinary action would be taken against him by the party, Muhyiddin shook his head.
Muhyiddin also shook his head again in disagreement when reporters questioned if he was going to be sacked from Umno tonight.
The Pagoh lawmaker was dropped from the Cabinet on July 28, following his open criticism of state-owned firm 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in which Prime Minister Najib Razak is the chief advisor.
On Monday night, Muhyiddin in an event at Kampung Baru called on Najib to temporarily step down so that investigations involving 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion political donation he personally received could be conducted without any interference.
Earlier today, Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed investigations papers on Muhyiddin were submitted to the party’s headquarters to determine if the latter had flouted the party’s rules.
Zahid also said the party would not allow the “raft” which was Umno, to sink because of “one loose string.”
Supreme Council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan meanwhile agreed that action should be taken against both Muhyiddin and vice-president Shafie Apdal for refusing to comply with the council’s stance on discussing controversial issues.
