KUALA LUMPUR: Only two days into its operation, Mara Digital has already received the thumbs up from customers.
A visit by Free Malaysia Today to the electronics and IT outlet this afternoon showed satisfied and excited visitors milling about the venue.
Complex manager, Asmat Rashid, 43, said this was because the centre, situated on the third level of Menara Mara, was strategically nestled among famous shopping centres like Sogo and Pertama Shopping Complex.
“We have an edge over Low Yat in terms of the authenticity of goods sold as it is difficult to ascertain whether the goods sold there are original. Almost all traders at Low Yat Plaza are from Pakistan and India, and it is congested.
“Compare this with Mara Digital, which has no traders from the two countries and is not too crowded,” he said.
The sentiment was also echoed by Peter Lai, 50, a bank manager who said that most of the traders at Low Yat were foreigners.
He suggested that Mara Digital, which was opened by Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri yesterday, increase its number of Bumiputera businessmen.
Trader Muhammad Khairi, 30, said the prices of IT products sold at Mara Digital were similar to those available at Low Yat Plaza.
However Khairi, who also has a business at Low Yat conceded that the latter offered a wider range of products. “Plus it is hard to find parking here (Mara Digital),” he explained.
Mara Digital is open from 10am to 10pm.
Managed by WGN Scan Sdn Bhd, the centre houses 11 concept stores, 20 kiosks, two Internet network providers, and five mobile network operators, all owned by Malay traders.
