'THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS ABOUT NAJIB'S RM2.6 BIL' - DR M LAUGHS AT ZAHID'S 3-MINUTE EXPLANATION
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad hit out at Putrajaya for taking only three minutes to explain the RM2.6 billion in the prime minister's personal bank accounts at the Dewan Rakyat.
The former prime minister said it was a serious matter that required a detailed explanation.
"It just shows he does not care about the people's dissatisfaction.
“It’s a very serious matter, so you should explain properly, not in three minutes," he told reporters after attending an event in Senawang, Negri Sembilan.
On Thursday, the much-anticipated explanation of the funds channelled into Datuk Seri Najib Razak's accounts did not materialise as he delegated the duty to his deputy.
In a ministerial statement that took three minutes to read, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told Parliament that the government could not elaborate on the RM2.6 billion deposited in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal bank accounts as it would prejudice ongoing investigations by the authorities.
Dr Mahathir said that the whole world knew about the RM2.6 billion in Najib's accounts, and reiterated his call for the donor who supposedly gave the monies as a political donation to be revealed.
"The whole world knows about the RM2.6 billion in Najib's accounts.
"We want to know who the donor is. Who is he and where is he from?" he said.
Dr Mahathir said it was also distressing that Umno delegates were not allowed to speak on "sensitive" issues such as the RM2.6 billion and on debt-ridden state investor 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) at the upcoming general assembly.
"The only person who can speak is the president; even the deputy president cannot speak.
"Delegates are also not allowed to touch on topics deemed sensitive to the president, such as on the RM2.6 billion and 1MDB," he added.
He felt that the situation was an affront to the democracy Umno enjoyed in the past.
"This is the situation now, there is no democracy.
"Members and delegates cannot speak; only those who support Najib can speak," he said.
Today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission confirmed meeting Najib to record his statement on SRC International Sdn Bhd and the RM2.6 billion channelled into his personal accounts. – TMI
