The Kuala Lumpur High Court today fixed April 15 as the final case management date for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor's suit against Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming from the DAP.
Judicial Commissioner Siti Khadijah Syed Hassan Badjenid ordered that all witness statements for the case be filed before the date as the court has fixed hearing for May.
Lawyer Nursyafiqah Balqish Jaffri who appeared for Najib and Rosmah, said all witness statements for the case will have to be filed by the plaintiffs and defendants before April 15.
The case came up for case management today during which Nga's lawyer Denis Goh handed over the lists of agreed facts and issues to be tried.
It was previously reported that Nga had applied to strike out the suit by Najib and Rosmah, who were attempting to obtain a summary judgment from the court.
A summary judgment is the hearing of case without the need to call for witnesses as it would be done on a point of law and based on the statement of claim.
Nga's application along with Najib and Rosmah's application will be heard before Siti Khadijah on March 14.
If Siti Khadijah decides the matter should go to trial, its hearing will be from May 16 to 19 and May 23 to 26 next year.
Najib and Rosmah filed the suit in the middle of last year, following a Facebook posting Nga made on March 29, purportedly depicting them at a cabinet meeting.
In their defamation action against the Taiping MP, the couple alleged that Nga, in his post, had used the photograph to illustrate that Rosmah had once participated in a cabinet meeting.
They said the photograph was of them with several cabinet ministers and high-ranking Wisma Putra officials in a hotel room on a visit to China, and not at a cabinet meeting. -Mkini
