PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested eight individuals, including five women, believed to be responsible for 15 cases of theft in supermarkets.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said the suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested during a raid at a house in Taman Botani, Klang, on May 12.
He said the arrest was made following a report of a theft in a supermarket here on April 30.
Their modus operandi was to bring out the stolen items, like baby formula and cosmetic products, by hiding them inside their clothing, he told a media conference here.
He said the women would normally be clad in baju kurung and that the stolen items would be sold to unsuspecting buyers at a cheap price.
In another development, Mohd Zani said three suspects, aged between 19 and 35, were detained in connection with snatch theft cases reported in Kota Damansara, Sungai Buloh and in Section 17 here.
They are in remand until May 27 to facilitate police investigations, he added.
