Behave yourselves, Penang governor tells elected reps

The state's 40 assemblypersons have been told by Penang Governor Abdul Rahman Abas to behave themselves and be courteous within and outside the state Legislative Assembly.
"You are the leaders of the people and an example to the public," Rahman said during his speech to the Penang assembly today.
He said he is aware that there could never be 100 percent agreement on politics and that the system of check-and-balance in any system of governance is necessary.
"Carry on with the system based on trust and put aside personal issues and political disagreements," he advised when opening the first meeting of the fourth session of the 13th Penang Legislative Assembly.
The assembly session starts today amid unresolved issues between DAP and PKR, which are still reeling over their massive losses in last Saturday’s Sarawak state election.
Past sessions have seen intense debates between the backbenchers and their opponents in Umno.
This session is expected to see lively debates on several burning issues in Penang, including the state’s reclamation projects, illegal hillslope clearing, the Penang Transport Master Plan and the proposed undersea tunnel linking Gurney Drive on the island with Bagan Ajam on mainland Seberang Perai.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is expected to continue to face accusations of having purchased a bungalow on Jalan Pinhorn for RM2.8 million, at allegedly below the market price.

Last Saturday and Sunday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) interviewed Lim at its office in George Town for 20 hours.
Rahman also called on the assemblypersons to carry out their debates in an intellectual manner.
“Be rational and not emotional when debating issues, which must be reviewed in detail,” he said.- Mkini
