Don't speculate over gun in JDT striker's vehicle, says IGP

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has urged all quarters not to speculate on the gun found in a four-wheel drive belonging to Johor football team (JDT) star striker Safee Sali.
He said the police are investigating the matter, and the guilty party would be charged in court.
"Let us investigate first. He (Safee) was not driving the vehicle (at the time). Someone else was using it, and that person has been arrested.
"Don't speculate that it is the football player's gun. Let us carry out a detailed investigation first," he told reporters at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Yesterday, it was reported that the police found a pistol and 30 rounds of ammunition in the vehicle.
During the incident, the vehicle was being driven by the owner of 4x4 accessories shop.
The vehicle was stopped by traffic police personnel during a roadblock at the Kempas exit along the North-South Highway (PLUS).
When a check was conducted, police personnel found the gun and bullets in a yellow bag in the back seat of the Ford Ranger.
Following this, Johor police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd confirmed that the 34-year-old suspect had no links with Safee.
He said the footballer had sent the vehicle to the suspect's accessories shop for modification and planned to collect the Ford Ranger after Saturday's FA Cup final.
Previously, Safee, who also plays for the national team, landed in the limelight when he took a swipe at Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
This is after the minister blamed the players for the decline of the national squad's world ranking. -Mkini
