Dr M mystified by Umno lawmakers’ ‘silence’ on scandals

The lawmakers were chosen by the people to speak up on their behalf and protect their interests.

KUALA LUMPUR: In an open appeal on his blog, former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been left wondering how Umno lawmakers could not know and could not be aware that the various scandals involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had affected the image of the nation besides projecting the ruling party in the worst possible light. “Everything that has badly affected the party has been the work of Najib. Malaysia’s image in the world has never been worse.”

“Umno, until the scandals, was a party which has contributed a lot to the people. The lawmakers must keep this in mind. Cash is King is not the way to run a nation.”

Mahathir left no doubt that he was not under any illusion that Umno could be rehabilitated from within. “It’s not possible. Umno is no longer the party that it once was.”

“The Umno lawmakers who support this have betrayed Umno, the people, nation and religion. As long as Najib remains, the rule of law will be swept to one side.”

He called on them to join with those who were determined to get Najib out of Putrajaya so that something can be done about Umno and the dignity of the people and the nation regained.

In the off-chance that the lawmakers remain unaware and did not know what Mahathir was talking about, he decided to take the liberty to list just some of the wrongdoings for which Najib must be held responsible.

He pointed out that the lawmakers were chosen by the people to speak up on their behalf and protect their interests.

In pointing out that 1MDB was under investigation in many countries, Mahathir urged the lawmakers to pause and consider that RM42 billion guaranteed by the Government of Malaysia was missing from the company.

“The Swiss Attorney-General said that as much as USD7 billion was missing from 1MDB. Singapore has charged a banker with offences related to 1MDB. Arul Kanda Kandasamy has raised the possibility that 1MDB may be the victim of massive fraud.”

Rest assured, the former Prime Minister warned the lawmakers, “Umno, under the circumstances, will lose the 14th General Election if led by Najib .”

“The children and grandchildren of Umno lawmakers would despise them for having destroyed the party and brought disaster to the nation.”
