No 'Minister's Question Time' this coming parliamentary session

The Dewan Rakyat has postponed the Minister's Question Time which was part of House speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia's parliamentary reforms efforts.
Dewan Rakyat secretary Roosmee Hamzah in a letter to MPs, sighted by Malaysiakini, said the move is postponed because there is not enough time to implement it.
The maiden Minister's Question Time was to take place in the upcoming Parliament session from May 16 to May 26.
In the letter dated May 11, Roosme said the decision was made by Pandikar.
"The decision was made because the time frame given to make the necessary preparations in terms of briefings, training and simulation of the Minister's Question Time for MPs was too short," it said.
It added this will only be implemented in the parliament session after the next one, which is set to take place from Oct 17 to Nov 24.
However, the letter said the implementation of the Special Chamber, another component of the parliamentary reform, will go ahead in this coming parliament session.
It added Oral Questions will also go on as usual.
The Special Chamber will enable MPs to debate urgent public interest issues.
Under the parliamentary reform, the notice to submit questions for oral or written reply from the government have also been shortened from 14 days to 10 days. -Mkini
