KEMAMAN: A policeman was hurt after he was splashed with acid during a police raid on a house in Kemasik, here, yesterday.
Kemaman District Police Chief Supt Mohd Said Ibrahim said the incident took place when Lance Corporal Mohd Haikal Zaharudin, 27, and seven other policemen were raiding the house at 2.10am.
“The suspect had swung a bottle containing liquid while making his escape the contents of which splashed on a policeman from the Kemaman district police headquarters Narcotics CID.
“But we managed to catch the 27-year-old suspect,” he told a media conference here today.
Mohd Said said an inspection on the suspect’s waist pouch found several pills and lumps believed to be WY pills, ice and heroin worth RM1,300.
According to Mohd Said, the policeman was hurt with burns behind the ear and left and right hand and was rushed to the Kemaman Hospital before being transferred to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu.
He is reported to be in stable condition.
“Based on information received, the suspect and his two younger brothers, aged 22 and 24 years, are involved in drugs but they managed to elude the raid.
“We have identified the brothers and also seized the glass bottle containing the liquid.”
He said the suspect, who was jobless, also had six records on drugs, housebreaking and motorcycle theft.
The suspect was remanded one week for further investigation, including under Section 333 of the Penal Code, for causing grievous hurt to a civil servant in the line of duty and Section 7 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
