PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's warning to the party to be wary of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad doesn't mean cooperation between the two should stop, a PKR vice-president has said.
"We are told to be careful on the road and that doesn't mean we should not drive. The same logic applies here," Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin told reporters outside the Parliament lobby today.
Shamsul said the party is free to cooperate with any quarter that fights the government, and this included Mahathir.
Asked about why he said Anwar's letter to PKR was a hoax yesterday, fellow PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who was also present, brushed it off.
"He (Shamsul) didn't see me yesterday so don't disturb him," she quipped.
Nurul Izzah herself declined to comment on her father's letter, saying she needed to deliberate on it.
Later, PKR parliamentary whip Johari Abdul, when met by reporters, said it was up to individuals whether or not to support the Citizens' Declaration spearheaded by Mahathir.
"Like some of them, they have been there since PKR started and the Reformasi period. They saw Mahathir as the prime minister and they still cannot get over that, so they stayed away from supporting it.
"That's okay, there are others who support it as well," Johari said.
Anwar in his letter, called the declaration a flawed document by Mahathir, that it focused too much on ousting Najib instead of actual reforms. -Mkini
