Deputy Finance Minister Chua Tee Yong seems to be in the dark over reports that Russian state oil and gas firm Zarubezhneft has expressed interest to buy Petronas' assets.
He said the question should be directed to Petronas instead.
“I really don't know about it,” Chua, the Labis MP, told reporters when at the Parliament lobby today.
“It may be an ongoing discussion. And we don't know about the details. There may not be sales at all. I don't think we should speculate,” he said.
The majority of Petronas' shares are held by Minister of Finance Incorporated.
Last Friday, Russian news agency Tass quoted Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak as saying that Zarubezhneft is looking forward to purchasing Petronas' assets.
"Also, Zarubezhneft shows interest in studying the assets of Petronas. The parties are holding consultations about it," he said.-Mkini
