The Rural and Regional Development Ministry did not suspect anything was wrong with the Menara Felcra project as there were no complaints, said minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Ismail also revealed he had not heard of any misgivings regarding the development until today.
"This is the first time I'm hearing about it.
"As long as there are no reports or complaints we assume that its a normal project," he said at a press conference in Sungai Besar today.
He was commenting on a Malaysiakini report today that Felcra now has to fork out RM687 million for the Menara Felcra project in Kuala Lumpur.
Felcra originally was not supposed to pay a single sen, with all costs to be borne by the developer, the WZR group, which was to make profits from leasing office and retail space, as well as selling apartments in the mixed development.
Those familiar with the matter, however told Malaysiakini that WZR was unable to bankroll the project, and shifted the burden of financing to Felcra.
"If there are complaints and less than savoury reports than the ministry will investigate this thoroughly," Ismail assured when asked if he would look into this matter.
The Menara Felcra project was approved by the Minister of Finance Inc (MKD) in Feb 2015 and launched later in May.
At the time the rural and regional development minister was Shafie Apdal.
Ismail assumed the portfolio following a cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in July last year.- Mkini
