SABAH'S ANTI-NAJIB TSUNAMI BEGINS: SHAFIE APDAL'S DEPUTY, 17 DIVISION & 300 BRANCH LEADERS QUIT UMNO

KOTA KINABALU - Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Jaujan Sambakong has resigned from Umno citing the suspension of party vice-president and Semporna division chief Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal as unfair.
“I have quit the party,” Jaujan told The Star Online.
He said those who also quit the party included Semporna Umno permanent chairman Datu Eranza Saribu, 17 division and 300 branch leaders.
Jaujan, the Semporna Umno vice-chairman, said they were unhappy with the “unfair” suspension of Shafie, who is Semporna MP.
Two other assemblymen in the Semporna parliamentary constituency -Sennalang assemblyman Datuk Nasir Tun Sakaran and Bugaya assemblyman Datuk Ramli Marhaban - have not joined Jaujan and other Shafie supporters in resigning.
“Shafie has played a pivotal role in Umno’s entry into Sabah and helped work towards its establishment.
“He has been a loyal party member and worked to protect the party. Action to suspend him was unfair,’’ Jaujan said.
Nasir said he would check on whether the resignations are true.
“I am with Umno. I am just hearing about these so-called resignations. I don’t know if it is true, I am checking.
“I’ve no statements to make at this point,’’ said Nasir, the son of Sabah Umno’s first chief minister Tun Sakaran Dandai, and Shafie’s cousin.
On Friday, the Umno supreme council suspended Shafie while sacking party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
Shafie is currently in Medina, Saudi Arabia performing the Umrah. - ANN
