The late BN Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Wan Ahmad would not have agreed with Umno minister Azalina Othman Said and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for putting up the motion to amend Act 355 in Parliament, Perak MCA is telling voters in letter.
"Without informing the BN allies, Azalina, all of a sudden, put forward Hadi's Private Member’s Bill related to hudud. This happened when we were preparing to fight the battle.
"This has disrupted (our) moral and we were bitterly dissapointed.
"If Wan Mohammad Khair-il had still been alive, (I) think he would not agree with it," Perak MCA chief Dr Mah Hang Soon said.
The letter is published in the June edition of the publication 'Perak View', which was distributed to Chinese voters by the MCA campaign team led by the party’s Wanita chief Heng Seai Kie.
"Being part of Chinese community, MCA is as angry and bitter as you are, that we are prepared to lose our government posts. We could call for the people’s movement to defend the Federal Constitution and secularism.
"MCA can choose not to campaign for his widow to express our dissatisfaction, but this will weaken our strength to defend the secular state," Mah stresses in the letter.
'Support and empower MCA'
Mah, who is also a Perak state executive councillor, called on the Chinese community to support and empower MCA to collaborate with the other BN parties to stop the Hudud Bill.
"We believe there still are moderate and open minded leaders in BN. Dear friends , let us choose a candidate who will continue his vision," he said.
In the letter, Mah said, Wan Mohammad Khair-il was a simple, friendly and moderate lawmaker, having left with unfulfilled wishes.
"He was a good friend of mine for many years, I called him Wan like many others. I could see his warm smile from afar," he noted.
"Friends in Kuala Kangsar, let us ponder who will continue Wan's unfinished wishes and complete what he had promised in the last general election," Mah said.
