Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has denied being taken aback by the activist Fahmi Reza’s colouring book that featured his likeness.

On the other hand, he pointed out that his successor Najib Abdul Razak had it worse in the colouring book
“They can do what they like,” he said, when asked how he felt about the way he is portrayed in the book.

“You look at Najib. Worse still! You see him smiling and parts of his body are exposed. You ask him how he feels?” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Fahmi's colouring book ‘Mari Mewarna ABC Politikus Malaysia’ parodies politicians on both sides of the political divide.
Mahathir is featured in the book as ‘D for diktator (dictator)’, along with a likeness of him brandishing his middle finger.

Meanwhile, Najib appears in the book under ‘K for koruptor (corruptor)’, along with a caricature of him with his mouth agape and his left hand pointing upward as though in a middle of a fiery speech.

Fahmi had worked on the book about a year ago by crowdsourcing for ideas on Facebook, where he asked his fans for ideas on which politician to feature for each of the 26 alphabets.

Yesterday, the activist-cum-artist said he had approached Mahathir during a function in Kuala Lumpur to show him the book.

“During the launch of Mahathir's latest book, I went up the stage to give him a copy of my colouring book. This is the ‘Malaysian Politikus ABC Coluring Book’, I told him.

“At first he smiled. But when I handed him the book, I opened the page to 'D untuk diktator' which is decorated with the picture of him giving the middle finger.

“He was speechless, but I heard a grunt of disapproval from him,” Fahmi wrote in a Facebook post.

However, Mahathir told reporters today that he was not surprised at all by Fahmi’s actions.

“I wasn’t surprised or anything. I have been prime minister for 22 years and people have said all sorts of things about me - corrupt, this and that…

“I don’t care,” he said.-Mkini
