K KANGSAR POLLS The family of the late Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad expressed hurt and regret over the remarks by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) leader Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
Speaking on behalf of his mother, Mastura Mohd Yazid who has been nominated to defend her husband’s seat, and siblings, Wan Imar Izzat said the helicopter crash which killed his father and five others should not be politicised.
“We are still grieving for our late father.
“So when this issue gets politicised, we were very hurt,” he told reporters after handing out aid at a school in Kuala Kangsar this morning.
On Monday, Nizar, who is the former Perak menteri besar, said the by-election was divine retribution to let the people teach Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi a lesson over the Perak crisis.
In 2009, the Perak state government led by Nizar collapsed after several opposition assemblypersons jumped ship.
Meanwhile, Wan Imar Izzat hoped that politicising such tragic events would not recur.
“Our family has received scorn even before nomination day. So we hope everyone can give our family the respect we deserve.
“Pray for our well-being instead of pouring scorn. Furthermore, this is the month of Ramadan,” he said.
However, he refused to comment when asked if it was unbecoming for a former menteri besar to make such comments.
“Some people have their own way (of doing things), so I can’t comment further,” he said.
Yesterday, Zahid said Nizar’s remarks showed that he has not changed, and hoped that the Amanah leader would repent.
The Kuala Kangsar by-election is a four-way tussle among Mastura, PAS’ Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, Amanah’s Ahmad Termizi Ramli and Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary. - Mkini
