Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will not support PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member's Bill seeking to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdictions) Act 1965, and pave the way for the implementation of the Islamic penal code hudud, reports national news agency Bernama.
“We are a multiracial country (Sarawak), Muslims only constitute 25 percent...

"We are not Kelantan but anyway our principle is that we are against the Hudud Bill,” its president Adenan Satem reportedly said.

Adenan, who is also Sarawak chief minister, said this during a press conference held after he chaired a PBB supreme council meeting in Kuching today

At the same press conference, he also said that he wants the nine direct candidates to reconsider their application to join the party.

“We have asked the nine who applied to join PBB to reconsider their decision and to go back to their constituency and ask their constituents what they ought to do.

“If after consulting their constituents, they insist on joining PBB, then we have no choice but to entertain their application,” he said, adding there was still time till end of the month, .

Asked about Sarawak BN component parties’ concern on the issue, Adenan said PBB will see what happens after the nine candidates submit the application again.

“It’s too early to comment on the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, Adenan said based on the political analysis of the recent election result, PBB had shown a marked improvement in performance compared to last year.- Mkini
