Syed Saddiq: If Bersatu is racist, can I join MCA and MIC?

Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman has asked if he can join MCA or MIC, after the BN component parties accused Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) of being a racist party.
Syed Saddiq is a pro-tem committee member for Bersatu, which had its registration papers submitted to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on Tuesday.
"Umno mobilised the defunct and powerless MCA and MIC to say that this party is racist for being race-based.
"I'd like to ask MIC and MCA, can I, as a Malay, enter your party?" he said in a statement today.
Syed Saddiq had defended the configuration of Bersatu, stating that it was not purely race-based as the proposed bumiputera-only party also accepted non-bumiputera associate members.
He pointed out that MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon had proposed the same mechanism just two months ago in a bid to make the party more multi-racial, but Bersatu beat MCA to it.
"They (MCA) are 'all talk but no action'. Let's not forget, our constitution is reform-centric and we look forward to forming alliances with other opposition parties.

"I would like to personally challenge MCA and MIC to do the same if they really care about slowly transitioning out from race-based politics.
"MCA did propose it after all. Walk the talk," he said.
Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin formally registered Bersatu in a bid to challenge his former party Umno.
It remains to be seen if the ROS will accept the party's registration.
Bersatu pro-tem leaders have indicated that they may acquire an existing party if the registration is rejected.
