The bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdictions) Act (Act 355) will be tabled tomorrow or Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
The bill submitted by PAS president and Marang MP Abdul Hadi Awang, seeks to raise the limit of penalties meted out by the Syariah Court.
If passed, the amendments will pave the way for hudud in Kelantan.
“It will be tabled this week,” he told reporters after holding a meeting with Muslim MPs on the matter at the Parliament building today.
The briefing was also conducted by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Islamic affairs Jamil Khir Baharom.
The last Dewan Rakyat session for the year ends on Thursday.
