KUALA LUMPUR – MyWatch, purportedly an anti-crime non-governmental organisation (NGO), was deregistered by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) in September last year, deeming it defunct.
RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah said the registration of MyWatch was revoked on Sept 14 following failed attempts to reach its chairman Datuk R Sri Sanjeevan at the NGO’s registered address in Sentul.
“We made several attempts to reach the leadership of MyWatch to enquire on its status and other matters last year but to no avail. Our officers even visited the given address and sent out several letters to MyWatch notifying it of the repercussions of not responding to our queries. When we received no response, the decision to revoke the registration of the NGO was made. With the de-registration of MyWatch, it is illegal for members to operate under the NGO,” he told theSun.
Razin also said that investigators from the RoS had recorded a statement from Sanjeevan at Bukit Aman after he was arrested by police last year.
He said the probe was over an alleged offence of continuing to operate under MyWatch after its registration was revoked.
Razin said the RoS had only recently received a letter from Sanjeevan appealing against the decision.
He said the appeal will be forwarded to the Home Ministry for its perusal and decision.
Sanjeevan, 31, ran foul of the law in June 22 last year when he allegedly extorted RM25,000 from an illegal gaming operator in Nilai.
He was subsequently arrested on other occasions for cheating, money-laundering, forgery of academic qualifications and was charged for three counts of extortion on separate occasions.
His luxury cars and motorcycles were also seized by the authorities.
Sanjeevan spent more that three weeks in detention under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) after police opened more than a dozen investigation papers to probe the alleged offences.
