Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos has submitted a proposal to settle a defamation suit filed against him by Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah.
Maria's lawyer Melissa Sasidaran told reporters that she will be discussing this development with her client.
Maria filed the suit against the red-shirts leader for alleging Bersih had been infiltrated by Islamic State elements.
Earlier in the day, Melissa told the High Court in Kuala Lumpur that Jamal had yet to submit a proposal.
She told reporters that following this, justice Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab set a case management date on Feb 17, at 3pm to arrange for pre-trial matters.
Also present was Jamal's lawyer Mohd Nasir Yusof.
It was reported last month that justice Zaki had asked parties to explore the possibility of settling the matter.
However, Maria said Jamal's allegations are serious as it claims Bersih is involved in terrorism, which had led to her detention under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 just before the Bersih 5 rally.
Jamal had made the allegations against Bersih at a press conference on Sep 28, and again on Oct 4 when he lodged a police report over the matter.- Mkini
