I’m a frog without colour, says Ibrahim Ali

Perkasa president says there are a lot of frogs who jump from party to party, including green frogs and orange frogs.

PETALING JAYA: Ibrahim Ali, who has in the past jumped parties, has called himself a “frog without colour”.
The Perkasa president said that in the 12th and 13th general elections, he did not join any party but contested under PAS’ banner.
“Right now, there are a lot of frogs who jump from party to party, including green frogs and orange frogs.
“I’m a frog without colour. I didn’t join any party until the end of GE13. In fact, during GE13, I had also contested as an independent candidate.
“As an independent MP in the Dewan Rakyat, after winning in the GE12 under PAS’ banner, my stance on issues had nothing to do with PAS-imposed baiah (oath),” he told FMT today.
Ibrahim was responding to Salor assemblyman Husam Musa’s statement regarding those who will be brought to the shariah court for breaking the baiah taken by Kelantan PAS MPs not to jump party after winning posts during the GE12.
Anybody disobeying the oath is required to divorce his wife.
Husam said the first person who should be brought to the shariah court was Ibrahim who contested on a PAS ticket but then left the party.
Previously, Klewek PAS division had put forth a motion urging central PAS to take immediate action against those who broke the oath. The motion was supported by the Tanah Merah PAS division.
Ibrahim said Husam’s statement was not only desperate but was made in order to protect himself.
“From the beginning, Husam knew that I’m not a PAS member and that I only worked with the party for GE12.
“That’s why, as soon as the election was over, I asked to be placed in the Dewan Rakyat as an independent candidate.
“Back then, not one PAS leader protested or brought up the issue of the baiah, including Husam himself.”
The oath was made compulsory for all candidates who represented PAS in the general election in Kelantan.
It was introduced when PAS and Semangat 46 cooperated in Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah in 1994 when the Kelantan government was facing the problem of members jumping from party to party, creating instability in the state.
Among the representatives who have been closely associated with the issue are Kuala Kerai MP Hatta Ramli and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad. -FMT
