‘WE ARE NOT AFRAID TO BE HANGED TO DEATH, SO WHY FEAR CUTTING OFF HANDS & LEGS’: CAUGHT ON VIDEO – DAP LEADERS ‘DEFEND’ HUDUD

PETALING JAYA: A video showing DAP leaders supporting PAS with a few of them seemingly defending hudud laws has resurfaced on social media and has since gone viral.
The three minute long video which emerged in February captures statements made by various DAP figureheads supporting hudud in 2013, around the time of the last general election.
“Hope lights up in the holy month. Vote for the moon, receive pahala (rewards),” Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is seen reciting a pantun in the video.
PAS’s flag depicts a white moon on a green background.
Later in the video, DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang is shown saying that a vote for DAP is also a vote for PAS.
“If you never rob or steal then you don’t have to be afraid,” Seremban MP Anthony Loke is seen saying.
“All the same, now in Malaysia, we have laws that are more frightening than hudud,” he is shown saying.
He then makes a comparison between the punishments of hudud and Malaysia’s Penal Code in relation to drugs, noting that if so meone is found with drugs above a certain amount, they can be hanged to death.
“We are not even afraid of being hanged to death. Why are you afraid of cutting off your hands and legs?” the video quoted him as saying.
 MISCONSTRUED?
The video has been a sore point for Loke after Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Liang Teck Meng asked him to apologise for once supporting the implementation of hudud.
Loke responded by denying he supported hudud, saying that his remarks had been misconstrued.
Former DAP member Hew Kuan You who is known as Superman, among a few other DAP politicians, also make an appearance in the video and are shown lending their support for a vote for PAS.
Ties between DAP and PAS have deteriorated since the last election, with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang refusing to work with his former ally as well as DAP being staunchly against his Private Member’s Bill seeking to further empower the Syariah Courts.
