Johari: Additional allocation for EC not for redelineation purposes

PARLIAMENT Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani today confirmed that the additional allocation sought by the Election Commission (EC) is not for the redelineation process.
“The additional allocation of RM62.78 million is not to be used for the redelineation process and was instead fully used to hold three elections," said Johari, responding to Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli's (Amanah-Kuala Krai) query on the matter.
His response came as he was winding up the debate on the Supplementary Supply 2016 (Bill) 2017 at the policy stage in Parliament today.
The second finance minister explained that RM60 million was used in the Sarawak state election while RM1.28 million and RM1.49 million were spent in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections respectively.
Pointing out how RM79 million was spent in the 2011 Sarawak state election, the RM85.4 million total amount spent for last year’s Sarawak state election showed an increase of 7.5 percent in expenditure, he said.
The federal government is seeking an additional RM3.081 billion allocation for the 2016 budget, with RM2.25 billion to be channeled to statutory funds.
This is the first supplementary supply bill sought by the government since the budget recalibration presented by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in January 2016.
Najib initially announced a RM267.2 billion allocation for Budget 2016.
Apart from the RM2.25 billion for statutory funds, the Education Ministry would receive RM298 million, RM216 million for the Transport Ministry, RM128 million for the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, RM104 million for the Health Ministry and RM24.13 million for the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
An additional RM20 million is to be channeled for the upgrading works of the Pan Borneo Highway while over RM250 million is for upgrading of works carried out in eight states.- Mkini
