Lawyer: MACC may apply to extend Johor exco's remand

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) may apply to extend the remand for Johor state exco Abd Latif Bandi, according to his lawyer Abdul Rahim Ali.
The exco's seven-day remand in connection with an investigation involving the alleged conversion of bumiputera property titles for kickbacks will expire tomorrow.
“We received information that the remand might be extended. We have not confirmed if he would be released, or if his remand would be extended.
“We would know the outcome tomorrow morning. The investigating officer might confirm (Abdul Latif's status) this evening,” the lawyer told Malaysiakini.
As for the next course of action, Abdul Rahim said discussions are still ongoing with the exco's family.
When contacted, MACC deputy commissioner Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency will decide tomorrow.
"I will decide tomorrow."
MACC arrested Abd Latif on March 9 after questioning him at the commission's office in Johor Baru.
The commission also raided his house, confiscating RM42,000 in cash, a Toyota Vellfire and 150 branded handbags.

The case is investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act and Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
Previously, MACC arrested six individuals in relation to the case. They included Abd Latif's son and the exco member's special officer.
MACC also seized 26 luxury vehicles and froze 45 bank accounts in connection with the case.- Mkini
