The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested 12 individuals from various enforcement agencies for allegedly receiving bribes from illegal massage parlor operators in Selangor.
In a statement, MACC said two of the suspects were police inspectors, five policemen, four firemen and an officer from the Kajang Municipal Council.
According to the statement, the men were nabbed about 9am today, during simultaneous operations in Kajang, Sungai Buloh and Kampung Pandan.
The MACC claimed that the suspects being paid month and offered "protection" to the massage parlors that were operating without licences, employed foreigners without valid papers and did not follow fire safety measures.
A source said some of the massage parlors also provided sexual services, and the operators boldly operated their centres, as they knew they were "well protected."
"The suspects are believed to have received between RM300 and RM10,000 in bribes from each massage parlor.
"MACC also seized RM25,000 in cash from the house and office of the one of the police inspectors," said the source.
MACC investigations director Simi Abd Ghani confirmed the arrest and said the suspects, aged between 26 and 53, will be taken to the Shah Alam court tomorrow for remand hearing.- Mkini
