Malaysia is not involved in any offensive operations in Yemen, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein reiterated today.
"Our troops never left Saudi Arabia's borders... we were there to save Malaysians.
"They were focused on evacuation efforts only, and they were not capable of any offensive attacks," Hishammuddin told the House today.
He was responding to Mujahid Yusof Rawa (Amanah-Parit Buntar), who was seeking an explanation in regard to media reports that Malaysia was bolstering Saudi Arabian forces in their operations against rebel forces in Yemen.
UN monitors have also reported that the Saudi-led military coalition, which includes other Arab countries such as Egypt, Kuwait and Jordan, may have committed war crimes.
The UN report does not say if Malaysia was directly involved, but states that Malaysian officers were at the Saudi's operations headquarters in Riyadh.
Hishammuddin said relying solely on media reports on the matter to implicate Malaysia was irresponsible.
Malaysian forces were deployed to the Middle East in April 2015 to facilitate the evacuation of Malaysians in the country, following civil unrest.- Mkini
