PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz was trounced in the Pengkalan Chepa PAS division election today.
Nik Abduh, who was vying for the position of Pengkalan Chepa PAS deputy chief, suffered heavy defeat against sole competitor Dr Izani Husin.
Izani, who is the incumbent, garnered 207 votes compared to Nik Abduh's 37 votes, according to a souce.
When contacted, Izani confirmed his victory but declined to elaborate on his win.
"Sorry, no comment. We need to work together for Islam," he told Malaysiakini.
The division is headed by Mohd Nik Amar Abdullah, who is also the Kelantan deputy menteri besar.
Nik Amar secured the position of Pengkalan Chepa PAS chief uncontested.
The division is significant as it was previously led by Nik Abduh's late father Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, a well-respected religious scholar and spiritual leader for PAS.
The division had also been under the leadership of Nik Amar's father, Nik Abdullah Arshad.
PAS is presently holding its elections at the division levels ahead of the party's muktamar which will take place between April 27 and May 1 in Kedah.
The election for the party's central leadership will also take place at the muktamar.
Nik Abduh, who is also Pasir Mas MP, had previously said he will not defend his position as head of the PAS Youth wing.
However, it is unclear if he will vie for a position in the central body.- Mkini
