Perak PKR is ready to take on incumbent Padang Rengas lawmaker Nazri Abdul Aziz in the next general election.
Party's state information chief Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail said they will ensure that a qualified PKR candidate, representing Pakatan Harapan, will wrest the constituency, "which has been neglected by" Nazri.
According to her, PKR has been actively serving the people of Padang Rengas through its branch leaders.
“Even though the date of the next general election has not been confirmed, PKR, through its branches’ machinery, has managed to penetrate areas which were previously Umno-majority,” she said in a statement.
This comes following Nazri's challenge to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to contest against him in Padang Rengas.
Mahathir then challenged the tourism and culture minister to face him in Langkawi instead.
Mahathir however, has since clarified that he has no intention to contest in the 14th general election.
Commenting on the matter, Siti Aishah said her party would like to advise Nazri to stop seeking popularity in politics and instead, prepare himself to face PKR.
She stressed how a particular parliamentary seat is for leaders to fight for the rakyat, and not to showcase their ego.
"That is why PKR is confident that it will win the Padang Rengas parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election."- Mkini
