Shut your bloody mouth, IGP tells media over Pastor Koh

Khalid Abu Bakar blames intense publicity over the abduction for hampering investigations.
Khalid-Abu-Bakar-pastor-raymond-kohKULAI: Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar today lost his cool when pressed by reporters about the investigation into the abduction of Pastor Raymond Koh Keng Joo.
“To the media, individuals and NGOs who want to get involved in kidnap cases, shut your bloody mouth; you are putting the victim in a high degree of danger,” Bernama quoted Khalid as saying today.
He said the police had no leads to the case, and blamed “too much publicity” for this.
“Too much speculation in the media could endanger the victim. I am worried, because our investigation is at a stalemate as we don’t have further information on the missing pastor.
“There’s no lead now. I’m with the family. We are worried too,” said Khalid.
Koh, 62, was abducted by a group of masked men on Jalan SS4B/10, less than 100 metres from the Police Housing Complex in Kelana Jaya on Feb 13. He was driving a silver Honda Accord bearing the licence plate ST 5515 D.
CCTV footage has shown that the abduction appeared to have been well-executed, involving more than 10 men and seven vehicles in broad daylight.
His family is offering a reward of RM100,000 for information on his whereabouts.
Khalid had previously denied suggestions that the police’s special squad was involved in Koh’s abduction, and said investigations were based on several theories including personal issues.
Police said the sole suspect nabbed in the case, 31-year-old Lam Chang Nam, was found to be not linked to the abduction.
On March 15, Lam was charged with blackmailing Koh’s son, Jonathan, with a promise to secure the pastor’s release.
Koh was at the centre of controversy in 2011 after his NGO, Harapan Komuniti, was accused by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) of proselytising Muslims, following a raid at a thanksgiving and fundraising dinner at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church.
Khalid said those behind Koh’s abduction were “very meticulous” but said the publicity surrounding the case was hampering investigations.
“When people keep blabbering till the whole world knows, we can’t tell what has become of him,” he said. -FMT
