Penang DAP rep: Declaring assets more important than pledges

The Penang government is more keen about its top officers declaring their assets instead of signing the Putrajaya-initiated integrity pledges, said Air Itam state assemblyperson Wong Hon Wai.
Wong said this was conveyed to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low, who is in charge of policies related to transparency, during a meeting with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Wong was responding to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head Dzulkifli Ahmad's criticism against Penang for allegedly refusing to sign the commission's "corruption free pledge".
Dzulkifli said that every state was either willing or had already done so.
"(There is) only one state left. It's up to the rakyat to assess this issue," said Dzulkifli according to The Star.

However, Wong, who is Lim's political secretary, said that the MACC had never written to the state government nor the chief minister about this.
"How could the state government decide on this if it was never asked to take part in the first place?" he said in a statement.
Wong said that it would appear that the MACC's statement seems to be political in nature.- Mkini
