Sinkhole swallows car after water pipe bursts near Indera Mahkota

KUANTAN: A car fell into a sinkhole that was formed following a burst pipe incident near Bunga Cengkih roundabout in Indera Mahkota, here, today.
The driver of the Perodua Viva, who was travelling alone, had attempted to wade through the water, thinking it was not too deep, before ending up sliding into the three-metre deep hole.
Part of the road had earlier collapsed due to flooding caused by the burst water pipe.

Some motorists behind the Viva were sent into panic while others ran to assist the unlucky driver.
A motorist, Siti Nurfatimah Zainol, 19, who was trailing the Viva, said she immediately slammed the brakes when she saw the car sliding into the hole.
"It was scary, luckily I managed to stop the car in time or else I would have crashed into the Viva and suffered the same fate," she said.
Pahang Water Management Bhd (PAIP) public relations and corporate communications officer Nurul Farhana Abdul Hamid said the sinkhole was caused by an underground water pipe that ruptured early in the morning.
She said the repairs works was scheduled to be completed at midnight.
