KUALA TERENGGANU: A former hospital administrative assistant was today sentenced to six years’ jail and fined RM1,075,000 or another six years on six charges of falsifying claims related to supply of eggs and milk to a hospital amounting to RM211,646.
Noormazida Mukhtar, 28, pleaded guilty to submitting four false claims totalling RM113,066, purportedly for the supply of eggs to the Dietetics and Nutrition Department at Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu.
This was done through a company, Syarikat KAB Adil Resources, of which her husband Mohd Fikri Izani, 26, was manager.
She committed the offences in February and June this year.
She also admitted to submitting two false claims of RM49,290 each, purportedly for the supply of milk to the same department by the same company between June and July this year.
According to the facts of the case, Noormazida could access the hospital’s finance system.
She prepared the working papers for the purported projects for her husband’s company even though it was another company, Aliasrani Enterprise, that had an agreement for such projects with the hospital.
Noormazida approved the projects using the access of another officer and falsified copies of some letters.
Her husband, who was jointly accused with her, was given a discharge and acquittal after the prosecution withdrew the charges against him.
Fikri submitted a representation to the prosecution on Nov 16.
Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz also granted the prosecution’s application to forfeit the couple’s assets amounting to RM149,877 in the form of cash, jewellery, a motorcycle and house under construction.
The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Amer Abu Bakar Abdullah and Mahadi Abdul Jumaat while the ex-hospital staff was represented by counsel Mohd Kamaruzaman A Wahab. -FMT
