After being cleared of wrongdoing by MACC, former Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairperson Annuar Musa said he had forgiven those who accused him of abusing his authority to secure sponsorship for the Kelantan football team.
“Now it is better that we look ahead, and I don’t want to prolong this issue any further.
“I have forgiven those who had misspoken and made accusations against me,” the Umno information chief said.
Annuar, who is also Ketereh MP, said this after handing over school essentials at a ceremony at Kompleks Yayasan Kemiskinan Kelantan in Kota Bharu today.
On Jan 12, Annuar was accused of using his position as the then Majlis Amanah Rakyat chairperson to force Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) to sponsor the Kelantan football team.
Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim had initiated the accusations against Annuar, and passed documents that purportedly detailed the said transactions to the MACC.
Tunku Ismail is now the president of the Football Association of Malaysia.
Annuar, who is a former Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) president, was subsequently suspended from his position in Mara.
This morning however, it was reported that the MACC had said that no charges would be pressed against Annuar due to “insufficient evidence”.
Meanwhile, Annuar expressed gratitude to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for deciding not to charge him, saying that he believes that the sponsorship issue had been played up by certain parties but that he had handled it well.
“Throughout the issue, I took a moderate approach of not issuing many statements and leaving it to the MACC to investigate.
“I am grateful that the MACC itself issued a statement saying that I won’t be charged. The MACC has done its work proficiently and in a short time,” he said.- Mkini
