PETALING JAYA – A Malaysian suspected to be an Islamic State member has been arrested at an airport in Pakistan after authorities discovered weapons and ammunition in a hidden compartment in his luggage and shoes.
Pakistan’s The Express Tribune reported that the suspect, Al Muhd Alfie Kqhyriel, 20, was arrested at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi while attempting to board Thai Airways Flight TG342 to Bangkok recently. It reported that authorities seized four pistols, eight ammunition magazines and 70 bullets hidden in his bag and shoes.
It is believed that Muhd Alfie is now being questioned by intelligence agencies over his alleged IS links and why he concealed pistols and ammunition in his luggage and shoes.
Sources said the suspect went to Pakistan on a 14-day social visitor’s pass.

“He was catching a flight back to Kuala Lumpur via Bangkok when he was caught by Pakistani authorities.
“The Malaysian authorities are still working with their Pakistani counterparts to determine the motive behind his visit to Pakistan,” a source said.
Another source said Malaysian authorities are in the midst of contacting the suspect’s family. “He was daring enough to attempt to smuggle weapons on board a flight. It seems like he was planning something in Malaysia,” the source said.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect was from Serian, Sarawak.
His arrest in Karachi comes after 20 suspected militants were detained in the country and just a week after a fatal IS attack on a church in Pakistan which left nine dead and 60 wounded.
Seven Malaysians, seven Filipinos, five Indonesians and a northern African were detained between Nov 30 and Dec 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, Johor and Selangor.
Among them was a 46-year-old former teacher from Kuching.
