Ka Siong 'honoured' by DAP's challenge but questions reluctance

MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong said he was honoured that DAP had given up two parliamentary seats to contest in his constituency of Ayer Hitam.
However, Wee questioned why DAP appeared reluctant to get into the ring on its own.
"I am honoured and flattered if DAP indeed gave up two parliamentary seats for Ayer Hitam in order to defeat Wee Ka Siong. Since you had worked so hard (in order to get Ayer Hitam), why would you give it up to Amanah?"
Wee was referring to speculation that DAP may allow Amanah to contest in the parliamentary seat of Ayer Hitam but under its own DAP rocket logo.
DAP had surrendered Alor Gajah and Tanjung Piai for Bersatu to contest and had received Ayer Hitam, which was initially claimed by Amanah, as compensation.
Putting up an Amanah candidate under DAP's logo was a proposed compromise between the two parties with Amanah already complaining that it had received very few parliamentary seats to contest.
However, DAP sources told Malaysiakini that the proposal had yet to be finalised with Amanah being reluctant to use DAP's logo in a Malay-majority constituency.
Wee addressed the issue at a press conference at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today where he also panned DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng for implying that he had not given adequate allocation to a local Chinese independent school.
Wee explained that the RM5 million annual allocation he received was not solely for education but was also used for an array of other matters such as road repairs, halls, mosques and temples.
He accused DAP of trying to sow dissatisfaction against him among the Malay and Chinese communities.
Wee also stressed that he will not underestimate Harapan's challenge against him.- Mkini
