KOTA KINABALU: A video showing a group of students chasing and beating up a teenager in Sandakan township has gone viral.
Following this, police have initiated a probe and identified eight Form Five students believed to be involved in the incident.
Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin said Monday (Jan 29) that the incident is believed to have occurred at about 1pm on Jan 26 near the Harbour Square.
He said the incident is believed to have started when a male student allegedly made fun of another student after uploading his photo on WeChat.
ACP Mohd Azhar said the boys, who were students from two secondary schools, will be called in to help with investigations.
He said police have also met with the principals of both schools.
"Further action will be taken by the schools as well," he added.
