MCA man grateful to Patriot chief for coming to non-Malays' defence

An MCA leader has lauded the statement of an NGO representing army veterans for defending the history of non-Malay participation in the nation's security forces.
“We are lucky to have veterans like Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot) who were there to know and tell the truth, and also correctly point out that the fight against communism involved all the races, not just Malays. Similarly, Communism then was an ideology pursued by all races, not just non-Malays.
“Malaysia is multi-ethnic. Therefore, for any individual to single out any ethnic group as opposed to the rest on this issue, is an irresponsible act and betrayal against Malayan history,” MCA publicity spokesperson and religious harmony bureau chairperson Ti Lian Ker said in a statement today.
Yesterday Patriot president Mohamed Arshad Raji blasted NGO Ummah's chairperson Ismail Mina Ahmad for the latter's speech last Saturday, in which Ismail claimed that only the Malays had fought against the British and Japanese.
Ismail also told non-Malays to leave the country if they did not agree with the Federal Constitution, without specifying which provisions he was referring to.
Mohamed Arshad called Ismail's claims about the nation's history factually wrong and called on the government to issue statements to correct the latter's erroneous views.
Ti echoed Mohamed Arshad's views citing “clear evidence that there are patriotic non-Malays fighting and defending Malaya but selectively forgotten or overlooked by some”.
“Kudos to Patriot for upholding the truths and correcting the false and divisive opinion portrayed by Ummah's chairperson. Ummah, in recalling history, must present history based on facts and not personal prejudices. Irresponsible statements like this do a disservice to national unity,' he said.
However, Ti did not address Ismail's call for those who disagreed with the constitution to leave the country.- Mkini
