PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has gone to the rescue of 93 tourists stranded on Pulau Tioman, off Mersing, Johor, for several days following bad weather and rough seas.
Star Online reported that 54 foreign tourists and 39 local tourists have been stranded on the holiday island since Jan 11.
Tioman assemblyman Mohd Johari Hussain confirmed that the Navy ship KD Terengganu was expected to arrive on the island at 10 tonight.
Those stranded will be transferred to the navy ship from 7.30am tomorrow from the marina.
Johari said seven locals, who had urgent matters to attend to on the mainland, would also be allowed to board the ship.
The monsoon season in the area is from October to March.
Johari said during this period of bad weather, there were fewer tourists to the island.
This time, the ferry services could not operate, leaving the tourists and locals stranded. -FMT
