PM Najib reminds police retirees of lifelong pledge

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak reminded police force retirees not to forget their pledge of loyalty to the country even after retirement.
“Discipline is important. More important is loyalty to the country, religion and the king.
“We cannot take this lightly. Whether you are wearing the blue uniform, or retired, do not forget your pledge.
“Our pledge does not end because of retirement. It is for as long as we still have life left in us,” Najib said in his speech at the Police Retirees Assembly held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said one’s duty to the country does not end at the age of 60 adding that there are some who are 93 years old and "still not done."
Though no names were mentioned, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who turns 93 this year, has been named opposition Pakatan Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate.
Najib said the government has many plans to develop the country and this would require support from police retirees.
“The government today needs your support. We will fight together. Do not pawn your dignity, religion, race and country. That is the principle,” he said.
He thanked the retirees for their loyalty thus far, adding that it is was due to their efforts that Malaysia was a safe country.

“I believe that we will become a country that is respected (someday). That is the dream you fought for back then until now, until your last breath,” he said.
Najib also announced an annual RM3 million allocation for the next three years for the Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis, a welfare fund for police retirees and their families.
He also said there will be separate hajj quota for police retirees, dependent on the overall quota given by Saudi Arabia to Malaysia.
The government will also reserve a certain amount of the 1Malaysia Public Servant Housing (PPA1M) units for police retirees, he said.
The police veterans welfare division will also be restructured and there will be new branches opened in each state, he added.
“This is not to put value on your contributions and sacrifices. (That) cannot be valued,” said Najib.
