TOO LITTLE TOO LATE: FINALLY, AZMIN AGREES TO CUT PAS ALLOCATIONS BUT THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE – AS S’GOR HARAPAN CHIEF, HE MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR REFUSING TO TOE THE LINE & DRAGGING THE PACT INTO HADI’S TRAP

A PAS assemblyman has confirmed the Selangor government’s move to cut annual allocations for the Islamist party’s state and federal lawmakers.
“Correct,” said Paya Jaras rep Khairuddin Othman via WhatsApp, in response to a query from The Malaysian Insight on whether the state government had cut PAS’ allocations.
According to an earlier report, Selangor has also removed PAS information chief Roslan Shahrir Mohd Shahrir from the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
However, a check with MPSJ showed that the council had yet to receive any notification on the matter.
The Selangor government allocates RM800,000 for each state representative and RM300,000 for each MP annually. PAS currently has 13 state representatives and one MP – Hulu Langat.
It was reported that Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali had decided several days ago to implement the measure.
Sin Chew Daily said this was tantamount to severing ties with the Islamist party, although Azmin had decided to keep three PAS excos so as to not disrupt the state administration.
Officially, PAS severed ties with PKR at its annual party congress on April 30 last year.
Despite cutting political ties with its former allies in the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition, PAS lawmakers decided to stay in the Selangor administration.
Azmin, hoping that a deal could be cut with PAS before the 14th general election, had also decided not to remove the Islamist party’s lawmakers from his state cabinet.
However, with the election being just around the corner and with no sign that PAS is willing to avoid three-cornered fights, a move that will only benefit Barisan Nasional, the decision was inevitable.
PAS had said it would contest 45 state and 15 federal seats in Selangor in GE14.
Meanwhile, Sin Chew quoted another PH leader, who said Azmin’s decision was in retaliation for the Kelantan government’s move not to appoint PKR lawmakers as its coordinator for constituencies held by BN.
PAS has 13 state seats in Selangor, with the others held by DAP (14), PKR (13), Amanah (two), Umno (12) and independents (two).
In the last general election, PKR and PAS contested 21 state seats each, and DAP, 15.
