Undersea tunnel probe: 'Datuk Seri' remanded for five days

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained a five-day remand order from the Magistrate's Court in Putrajaya today on an engineering consultancy company chairperson to facilitate investigations into the proposed undersea tunnel project in Penang.
The 62-year-old man, who carries a 'Datuk Seri' title, is believed to have a hand in preparing false claims to the Penang state government for feasibility studies of three major roads and the tunnel in the state, worth more than RM305 million.
The suspect was detained when he came to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya about 2.44pm yesterday to give his statement.
It is learned that the man’s firm was once involved in various mega projects, including construction of a bridge in Penang, a bus terminal in the federal capital and the upgrading of a state airport.
The latest remand has brought the number of individuals detained by MACC in the undersea tunnel project probe to four.
The 7.2-kilometre project linking Persiaran Gurney to Bagan Ajam in Seberang Perai and three major roads was awarded to Consortium Zenith Construction.
