PETALING JAYA: Former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim has denied having any intention to stand as a candidate in the next general election (GE14).
He said this following reports that the party may offer Khalid a chance to stand under its banner in GE14.
“There are reports stating that Selangor PAS leaders are protesting about this offer made to me.
“There is no need for such disputes or doubts over my support for their party because I have already said I will not be a candidate in GE14,” Khalid said in a statement today.
He added that he was not supporting PAS out of a desire for “status or position”.
“I am grateful for all that I have achieved so far and have nothing to add to that.
“My commitment now is to my country and my faith. That is why I am supporting PAS.
“They are a party based on welfare and doing good for others without fear, nor do they have any expectations,” said Khalid, who is Bandar Tun Razak MP.
It was previously reported that Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi had said that the Islamist party was prepared to have Khalid contest a state seat without any conditions attached, as long the Port Klang assemblyman was prepared.
“We are making the offer, firstly, because the party and Khalid have a connection from when he was the MB. We were pleased with the way he ran the state.
“I also believe that the people of Selangor supported how he served with sincerity and integrity,” Sallehen had said.
Khalid had gotten close to PAS after he fell out of favour with de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, following the “Kajang Move”, which led to his sacking from the party and eventual ouster from the state government. -FMT
