KUALA LUMPUR: PKR is urging the authorities to investigate an anomaly in the electoral roll after it was discovered that some 3,000 voters nationwide had their date of birth changed within a space of a few months.
The party’s communications director, Fahmi Fadzil, revealed that the party had chanced upon the irregularities when cross-checking the latest electoral roll.
And Fahmi does not think it is a glitch in the system.
“Someone is manipulating the database and we are unsure if the problem originates from the National Registration Department (NRD) or the Election Commission (EC).
“The problem is more critical if it is the latter,” he told reporters after a forum on the 14th general election (GE14).
Present and also taking part in the forum was former Bersih 2.0 chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan.
The heads of the EC and NRD, Fahmi said, must address this abnormality which he added has led to a voter in Sarawak becoming the “oldest” person in Malaysia at 150.
Fahmi also said the sudden change in the date of births meant that there were reasonable grounds for a royal commission of inquiry to be set up to investigate the electoral roll. -FMT
