Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has claimed that former premier Najib Abdul Razak ordered the sale of public land for below market price to a local newspaper and an Umno-linked company.
According to Lim, Najib issued two directives to chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa to first approve the sale of land in Taman Wahyu, Kepong, and then to consider a request by the buyers for a discount.
He told Malaysiakini that Ali confirmed this during a meeting on Thursday that was also attended by Kuala Lumpur City Hall officials.
"I saw the documents (of Najib's instructions) with my own eyes," he said, adding that Najib's signature was on the documents.
A source familiar with the matter confirmed to Malaysiakini that Ali had shown such documents to Lim.
Malaysiakini is attempting to contact Najib and Ali's aides for comment.
Lim had previously raised questions on how the 80ha of land – including 36ha of a flood mitigation pond – could be sold without a tender.
The whole parcel of land was then sold to a joint-venture between a local and a China developer, who allegedly plan to build luxury condominiums in the area.
Lim said the project has been put on hold pending discussions between all stakeholders.
The DAP lawmaker said he plans to lodge an MACC report over the matter on Monday, as well as raise the matter with the Inland Revenue Board. - Mkini
