Report: Umno's Idris Haron quickly ends meeting when asked to resign

Malacca Umno chief Idris Haron (above) quickly ended his divisional meeting when faced with a motion demanding for him to resign as the head of Tangga Batu Umno yesterday.
The incident was related by Tangga Batu Umno deputy chief Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah and published by Berita Harian today.
Abu Bakar said the motion was tabled during the divisional meeting chaired by Idris last night and was attended by 30 committee members.
He said the motion called for Idris to take responsibility for BN losing power in Malacca in the May 9 general election.
However, he said Idris ended the meeting as soon as the motion was presented by a committee member and quickly left the venue. Seven other committee members followed suit.
Abu Bakar said he was stunned by Idris' action but decided to proceed with the meeting in his absence with the remaining 23 committee members including himself.
"In our discussions, we voted on the motion with 19 agreeing to ask Idris to resign from all of his positions while two others objected and another two abstained.
"The (divisional) committee wants him to take responsibility for the loss in the general election. We lost many parliamentary and state seats," Abu Bakar was quoted as saying.
Idris will be defending his position as an Umno supreme council member in the Umno party elections on June 30.
At the divisional level, Idris is being challenged by Tangga Batu Umno division committee member Ali Muhammad for the leadership position.
BN lost Malacca in the last general election and also the parliamentary seats of Tangga Batu and Alor Gajah. -Mkini
