Two candidates who had filed their papers to contest the Umno presidency during the party polls on June 30 have been disqualified.
They are Rahmat Azim Abdul Aziz from the Kota Raja division and Rosile Saat from the Bangi division.
All the main contenders, namely acting Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah qualified to contest for the top post.
The other two relatively unknown candidates who qualified were Mohamed Iqbal Maricair from the Bandar Tun Razak division and Mohd Yusof Musa @ Jamaluddin from the Iskandar Puteri division.
The announcement was made by Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a press statement this evening.
"The list of candidates at the central level was vetted with the Insolvency Department as well as considering the rules of the party," he said.
As for the position of Umno deputy president, three contenders had submitted their papers but one was disqualified.
The qualified candidates for the Umno deputy presidency are Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Mohamad Hassan and Umno information chief Annuar Musa.
Mohd Afnalizam Mohd Salim from the Pekan division was disqualified.
As for the three vice-president candidates, the confirmed contenders are Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Bera), Mohamed Khaled Nordin (Pasir Gudang), Sheikh Razali Sheikh Hamad (Gua Musang), Mahdzir Khalid (Padang Terap), Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak), Johari Abdul Ghani (Titiwangsa) and Ahmad Said (Kemaman).
Only one candidate was disqualified, namely Mohd Shukri Roslan from the Damansara division.
The confirmed candidates for Umno Youth chief are Imbran Afham Armen (Bangi), Abdul Razak Mohamed Yusof (Tanjong Malim), Wan Md Hazlin Agyl Wan Hassan (Seputeh), Mohd Shahar Abdullah (Paya Besar), Asyraf Wajidi Dusuki (Pasir Puteh), Jamal Yunos (Sungai Besar), Mohd Nor Izzat Mohd Johari (Hulu Selangor), Syed Rosli Syed Harman (Pandan) and Khairul Azwan Harun (Pasir Salak).
Meanwhile, the confirmed Umno Wanita chief candidates are Siti Zaharah Sulaiman (Paya Besar), Noraini Ahmad (Parit Sulong) and Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort). -Mkini
