SG KANDIS POLLS | PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim teased at his possible return to Parliament by hinting that yet another by-election will be on the way for him to contest.
He, however, did not specify which seat would be vacated to make way for him, nor when.
"There is a vacant seat in Sungai Kandis, there is a vacant seat in Balakong, and there's a vacancy in Parliament because I want to contest," he said when husting in Sungai Kandis in the lead-up to the Aug 4 by-election.
If it happens, this will not be the first time a parliamentary seat is vacated for Anwar. In 2008, the Permatang Pauh seat was vacated by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, his wife, and triggered a by-election.
However, Wan Azizah retook the seat in yet another by-election upon Anwar's jailing in 2015.
Aside from the Sungai Kandis by-election this Saturday, the Balakong polls will take place on Sept 8, with Aug 18 set for nominations.
The Sungai Kandis seat became vacant upon the death of PKR incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei from lymphoma, while the Balakong state seat fell vacant upon the death of DAP assemblyperson Eddie Ng Tien Chee in a road accident. Both deaths occurred last month. -Mkini
