PARLIAMENT | The Service Tax Bill 2018 was passed today at the Dewan Rakyat despite objections from the opposition lawmakers.
The bill formed part of the sales and services tax (SST) that slated to be implemented in September.
Yesterday, the House passed Sales Tax Bill 2018. The SST bills will commence being tabled in Dewan Negara on July 16.
In his winding-up debate, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng stressed the government cannot guarantee there would be no price hike after the new tax is in place.
He, however, believes that the impact would be half of that caused by the goods and services tax (GST).
He said the SST will not be imposed on the government's development projects.
As such, this will save six percent on the government's expenditures.
